Dear John and William
What a beautiful send off you gave Sally. There is no doubt, Sal was held in high esteem, almost universally. A rare thing. This was her super power for getting things done, and getting things done she did. Even if it meant she had to set up a new organisation, or go back to school to learn the required skills. Sally didn’t compete, she helped people shine. The long slow uncompromising surrendering of all the things that made Sal, Sally, must have been and was, at the same time, painful for those of us who loved her, but mostly for her. Made easier for her by feeling the supportive presence of those around her during her final journey, her loved ones, especially her husband and her son.

I send my deepest condolences to you, John and Will, and to all of Sally's friends and family. Sally brought so much fun to the world, and I am so grateful for the time I spent with her family almost 30 years ago. She inspired me with her service, dedication, and leadership in so many communities - in public health, civic life, the arts, cultural exchange, scouts, and more. Whether it was helping sort produce from local farms outside the house, sharing meals at the dining room (always with lots of laughter), or enjoying Christmas together on the beach, I carry many fond and fun memories of Sally with me, and I continue to be inspired by her contributions to making our world a better place. It was a beautiful service for a beautiful life. I send all my love from Chicago. xo
